
Museum
The Government and Art gallery, Chandigarh,came into existence as aftermath of partition of our country. There were so many wonderful Gandharan Sculptures,pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings. Apart from this their were sculptures and decorative arts, which were there in central Museum, Lahore.After 1948, forty percent of the collection was given to India. This was placed first in Amritsar then Shimla, then Patiala and finally in Chandigarh. Late Dr.M.S.Randhawa, a patron of art and former chief Commissioner of Chandigarh inaugurated the Museum has four wings apart from Art Gallery. The other three the Natural History Museum, Chandigarh Architecture Museum and National Gallery of Portraits. It also has an adjoining fully air conditioned and theatre were important function are held. Recently, a Mother Earth Open Air gallery has been opened. Museum Complex is located in Sector 10-C, Chandigarh.It has the following components-:

Museum is open to the public daily between 10:00a.m & 4:30p.m.But it is closed on Mondays.
